Gardening is a resting activity, great forunwinding after a difficult day at work, especially when gardening on a small, individualized scale.  Its one of this world’s simplest of pleasures, requiring only a few things to get started.  Gardening is good for your mind, body and spirit.  Gardening is a way to connect with nature and, as an added bonus, also provides healthful exercise.

Soil

The first step in organic home gardening is the get the proper soil.  Growth, death and decayare the principals behind good nutritious soil.

Container

Container gardening is concerned with growing plants in any type of container either indoors or outdoors.  Container Gardening can be undertaken by people with a very small area, and when using containers such as hanging baskets or window boxes, virtually no extra space is needed.  Container gardening is great for small yards, patios, doorsteps, balconies and windowsills.  Container plants can be moved around rather easily by hand or with the use of a cart.  Containers can be anything from milk jugs with the tops cut-off, to terra cotta pots, to barrel, to ceramic pots and sandstone-style planters.

Vegetables

Useful plants might be grown for consumption (vegetables, fruits, herbs, or leaf vegetables) or for a variety of other purposes, such as medicines or dyes.  Having vegetables in the backyard makes home gardening appealing to many people.  Vegetable gardens can wage fresh vegetables for your family from late start until your last canned blow is empty.  Growing up we had a massive garden and I can’t remember ever buying vegetables from the grocery store.  If you have children you can instruct them how a nice environment can produce beautiful flowers and great tasting vegetables.

Gardening is work, sore muscles, and even frustration, but its pleasures and benefits exceedthose.  Gardening is like a meditation, it place me in zen kind of trance.  Gardening is creating an environment to nurture life.  Container gardening is a great  pay to garden, no matter how much space you have.
